Counselling and Psychotherapy
I believe that insight into the root causes of our problems is an important part of the journey towards wholeness and inner peace. Accessing, expressing and integrating stored up feelings is the goal and fulfilment of therapy. This enables us to live more authentically and with greater compassion,
We often hide the truth to protect ourselves. It begins in infancy through repression and can continue throughout life unless we seek help.
Some of our common coping mechanisms are:
Being excessively busy
Learning to live mainly in our heads
We may find ourselves concentrating on physical pain to distract us from painful feelings that threaten to overwhelm us
We may become addicted to mood altering substances or behaviours.
Most of us can’t keep up these defences and adapted behaviours forever. Eventually we seek help. We develop physical ailments which lead us to the doctor’s surgery or emotional and psychological disorders that lead us to seek out counsellors or psychotherapists.
I concur with Carl Rogers, the founder of modern counselling, that given the right environment and conditions a person can unravel themselves from even the tightest knots and ties that bind them.
I see individual adults, adolescents and children.
There’s light at the end of the tunnel
